We discovered Frusen Glädjé (frozen delight) many years ago, and like everyone else we fell in love with the name. It is a cult brand that appears every now and then in American popular culture.
Frusen Glädjé was launched in 1980 by Richard E. Smith. His father and grandfather had been producing ice cream since the early 1900s. Richard wanted to create a premium brand with a Swedish-sounding name that made you think of Scandinavia. The joyful ice cream was available all over the United States. After the brand was sold a few years later it disappeared from the market. It has now reappeared as Frusen Glädje (without the accent) in a small ice cream parlour at Örum 119.
